The Hecksheim regiment charge and cross bayonets with the Eisenburg Musketeers.

Von Reiten still has four squadrons of dragoons covering the retreat from the left flank.

The Altstein dragoons are moving around the flank.

The infantry melee is won by the Hecksheimers, if you look closely you will see that scoundrel Captain Lidl crossing swords with Colonel von Reiten.

Von Reiten and the survivors flee across the bridge.

A timely charge from the dragoons ends in mutual destruction.

And the Hecksheimers are forced to retire.

The bridge is ready to blow!, with most of his men back on the east bank von Reiten gives the order and the fuse is lit.

As the bluecoated dragoons clatter on to the bridge the fuse goes out with a demoralising pfft! and the bridge is taken.

Damp powder I reckon, that early morning mist must have spoiled the job, that and rolling a two to blow the thing.

The scenario was the classic Tabletop Teaser: Bridge Demolition by Charles S Grant first published in Battle magazine back in the '70s and republished in the Battlegames Table Top Teaser vol1 scenario book.
The rules were Lawford and Youngs Charge!, modified a little to suit the smaller table.

I had to scale it down to suit my collection and I managed to play it on my 4x3 table. What a great game!, it was a favourite scenario to read back in the '70s, but I had no collection to play such a game back then.

Teufels Wasser is my 18th century version of the real life Devils Water near Corbridge, I was born almost within spitting distance of the river. Maybe that is why I can be quite naughty sometimes!.
